'Cool Hand Luke' Director Stuart Rosenberg Dies at 79

Cool Hand LukeHollywood director Stuart Rosenberg has died of a heart attack at his home in Beverly Hills, California. He was 79. The filmmaker, best known for Cool Hand Luke and The Amityville Horror, passed away last Thursday.

Rosenberg started his career in television, directing episodes of such classic TV shows as "The Untouchables" and The Twilight Zone. He went on to make a series of movies with his "Cool Hand Luke" star Paul Newman, including WUSA, Pocket Money and The Drowning Pool. He also directed Brubaker and The Pope Of Greenwich Village.

Rosenberg is survived by his wife Margot and his assistant editor son Benjamin.
