Reign Over Me star Don Cheadle will make his feature film directing debut with a biopic of jazz great Miles Davis.

The Oscar nominated star will also serve as a producer on the project. Darryl Porter of Miles Davis Properties will also be involved as a producer and the filmmakers have secured music and life rights to the jazz star's legacy.

Davis, who died in 1991, is considered one of the most influential jazz musicians from World War II on.

His recordings include Sketches Of Spain, Kind Of Blue and Bitches Brew. Producer Kay Liberman adds, "Miles pushed the envelope and was never satisfied and kept evolving."
