R.E.M.R.E.M. -- singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, and bassist Mike Mills -- will record their fourteenth studio album this Spring with Grammy Award-winning producer Jacknife Lee. Lee, most noted for his production on U2's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," has also produced albums by Snow Patrol, The Hives, and indie stalwarts Kasabian, Aqualung, and Bloc Party.

"R.E.M. are consistently one of the Great Bands, if not the greatest," Lee says. "The new songs they've written are some of their most exciting and visceral yet. They're a beacon for any band wishing to remain honest and challenging."

"We are psyched to work with Jacknife Lee," R.E.M.'s Mills says. "We've got a great batch of songs, and can't wait to put them down."

R.E.M.'s forthcoming release will be the Grammy-winning band's first studio album since 2004's "Around the Sun." In September 2006, they released a two-disc retrospective, "And I Feel Fine...The Best of the I.R.S. Years 1982-1987," which featured songs from the band's early years on indie label I.R.S.

On March 12th, R.E.M's original line-up -- Stipe, Buck, Mills, and original drummer Bill Berry -- will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder in a ceremony at New York City's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel that will be broadcast live on AOL, VH1 Classic, and MHD TV.
