Kevin FederlineBritney Spears' estranged husband Kevin Federline insists he doesn't mock fast food workers in a new commercial, because he was once a fry cook himself.

Federline recently filmed an ad for Nationwide Insurance in which he appears as a fry cook in a fast food joint who dreams about the lavish life of a rap star.

A US trade group has slammed the ad for being demeaning to restaurant workers.

But Federline hits back at the claims telling the New York Post that before marrying Spears, he worked in the fast food area at a water park near Fresno, California.

He says the ad wasn't meant to be offensive to workers, adding, "It was nothing towards nobody. I actually used to work in fries. That was my first job. Everybody came from that. A lot of people slung hash."

Federline insists the spot, which is set to air on Sunday during the Superbowl in the US, mocks his own reversal of fortune after his rap album bombed and his famous wife filed for divorce.

He adds, "I feel like it touches on it just enough for everybody to laugh about it."
