George Clooney enjoyed a low key Christmas with friends - after he entered into a pact not to celebrate the festive season. The 45-year-old decided to get away from it all at the Mexican beach resort of Cabo San Lucas, where he planned to have a good time without presents, carols or any of the trappings of the holidays. Instead, the big-hearted actor donated money to a charity.

He explains, "I went down south with a couple of my friends because we said, 'We're sick of Christmas.' Nobody put on Christmas songs and we didn't celebrate at all. It was nice. Good fun, I recommend it! We had no gifts.

"We put up a website for all of our buddies and just said, 'Everybody has everything they want, so what's your favorite charity? We'll donate to that.' It's a lot easier that way and then you don't have to shop."
