Scarlett Johansson has reportedly upset her New York neighbors with the strong smell of cigarettes coming from her apartment. The star's relationship with boyfriend Josh Hartnett is thought to be going through a difficult patch after he was recently forced to deny rumors of an on-set romance with New Zealand actress Amber Sainsbury.

Johansson's cigarette intake has increased as a result, upsetting those who live in the same apartment block.

An insider tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "One neighbor confronted Scarlett about the smell and she snapped, 'I am going through a difficult time right now - but she did agree to open the window to avoid disagreement."
