Scorsese Turned DiCaprio Into a Man
Director Martin Scorsese insists his protégé Leonardo DiCaprio has finally matured as an actor because he was still a "boy" when they teamed up for 2002 movie Gangs Of New York. Under the director's tutelage, 31-year-old DiCaprio has made the transition from teenage actor to grown-up star with leading roles in the Scorsese pictures The Aviator and The Departed. Scorsese says, "There's no doubt he was a boy when we did Gangs Of New York, which is what I wanted. But when he did Howard Hughes in The Aviator, that changed everything."
