Nick NolteNick Nolte insists his wild appearance in the infamous mug shot taken after his arrest for drunk driving has been misunderstood, because he was made to look that way for his role in The Hulk. The actor was portrayed as "insane" by the media after he was booked by Californian police in 2002 when his car was seen swerving across a Malibu highway.

And while the 65-year-old admits he was struggling with drink and drugs at the time of his arrest, he is adamant his crazed look in police photos was the doing of stylists on the Ang Lee-directed superhero movie.

He tells Steppin' Out, "What a lot of people don't know is that I had just finished filming 'The Hulk.' That's the hair I had from the movie! I just finished the film and that's the way the hairdresser did my hair."
