Pop star-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham has invited new pal Katie Holmes for a Paris city break - without their respective children. The actress, 27, has spent most of the year relaxing at home with fiancée Tom Cruise awaiting the April birth of her daughter Suri and caring for the young tot since its arrival.

Former Spice Girl Beckham and her soccer ace husband David struck up a friendship with Holmes after the actress began dating their friend Tom Cruise last year. Holmes left Cruise holding the baby yesterday as she boarded a private jet to the French capital, where she will be joined by Beckham later today, reports British newspaper Daily Mirror.

The two celebrities will spend two days in Paris shopping, indulging in beauty treatments and watching fashion shows from the front row. A source says, "They have been in touch every few days since Suri was born. Victoria thought Katie could do with a couple of days of 'me' time to indulge herself. Katie is very excited about the trip."

The Beckhams have three sons - Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.
