New York auction house Christie's is auctioning over 1,000 items of Star Trek memorabilia to mark the cult show's 40th anniversary. The props, varying from models of the Starship Enterprise to costumes worn by Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, go on sale next Thursday.
Author Denise Okuda, who co-wrote "The Star Trek Encyclopedia" with her husband Michael, helped select items from the CBS Paramount Television archives. She says, "One of the reasons we got involved was that we wanted material to get into the hands of the fans."
The collection's highlights include a model of the US Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation, which has been valued at up to $35,000 and a replica of the spaceship's bridge, made for Star Trek: Enterprise, estimated to be worth $20,000-$30,000.
