Funnyman Steve Carell learned all about the Hollywood myth not to work with animals the hard way, when he was forced to work with a menagerie of mad, smelly beasts on his new film. The comic was shooting Bruce Almighty sequel Evan Almighty when he learned that monkeys are terrifying and camels have dental hygiene issues.
Carell explains, "I interact with a lot of animals; among them were monkeys and these were really horrible little beasts. At one point one of them was trained to bring me a mug of lemonade... and he put it down and I drank some of it and then I offered him (some)... I improvised with the monkey.
"I said, 'Hey, you want some?' and he took it and just poured it all over himself and I said, 'Hey man, don't Bogart it!' and the monkey looked at me went (crazy). After the take the animal trainer came up to me and said, `Don't do that. As a matter of fact don't look at the monkey... Don't look the monkey in the eye.'"
And when he wasn't trying to avoid a monkey attack, Carell was attempting to steer clear of the smelly camels. He adds, "Camels are pretty heinous. Camels don't do a lot of dental work. Their teeth rot in their mouths."
