'Miami Vice' Knocks 'Pirates' Off Its Pedestal

Miami ViceThe big screen remake of 1980s iconic TV show Miami Vice finally toppled blockbuster Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest for the top spot at the U.S. box office. The gritty cop drama took in $25.2 million in its first week in release, knocking the Johnny Depp movie into second place with $20.5 million, after three weeks in the number-one position.

Pirates posted the biggest opening weekend of all time and has a total box office takes of $358.4 million.

Teen comedy John Tucker Must Die, starring former Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe, debuted in third place with a respectable $14 million.

The Ant Bully, an animated family film featuring the voices of Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Nicolas Cage, opened in fifth place with a disappointing $8.1 million.

Quirky independent film Little Miss Sunshine, starring Greg Kinnear and Steve Carrell, opened strongly in limited release, taking in $356,863 in only seven theatres in New York City and Los Angeles.
