"The Black Dahlia" To Be Opening Film at Venice Film Festival

The Black DahliaThe Black Dahlia will be the opening film at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival. The eagerly-awaited film is directed by Brian De Palma and stars Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank, Mia Kirshner, Mike Starr, and Fiona Shaw.

The film was adapted from the famous novel of the same name by James Ellroy and was inspired by a crime in 1940s Los Angeles. It centers on two cops, Bucky Bleichert (Josh Hartnett) and Lee Blanchard, who investigate the death of a brutally murdered young woman. Bucky soon realizes his girlfriend had ties to the victim and also uncovers corruption and conspiracy within the police department.

"The Black Dahlia" will be presented in competition as a world premiere on the evening of August 30 in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema. The 63rd Venice Film Festival will run at Lido di Venezia until September 9.
