'Dead Man's Chest' Smashes Box Office Records

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's ChestPirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has smashed U.S. box office records by taking $132 million during its first three days on release. The Disney sequel, which stars Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, sailed past Spider-Man's 2002 haul of $114.8 million.

The movie's producers are also celebrating a three-fold increase over Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl's $46.6 million opening in 2003.

Superhero movie Superman Returns is a distant second place on the box office chart with $21.4 million, closely followed by The Devil Wears Prada's $15.6 million take. Adam Sandler movie Click and animated adventure Cars round out the top five with $12 million and $10.3 million respectively.
