Jewelers Fear Leo DiCaprio Film Will Hurt Diamond Sales
Leonardo Dicaprio's new movie The Blood Diamond is causing controversy amongst jewel bosses, who claim the film could hurt diamond sales. DiCaprio and Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly are currently filming the drama in South Africa and Mozambique, which depicts how diamond mining financed civil wars. The heartthrob plays Danny Archer, a mercenary jailed in Sierra Leone for smuggling during the civil war in 2002, which left 50,000 dead.
Shmuel Schnitzer, outgoing president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, says, "The problem of conflict diamonds is practically over. To show a film that will lead the public to think the situation is still the same is an injustice to our industry which has done so much."
