Some of the biggest names in country music, including Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson and Reba McEntire, are coming together to record a tribute album for country legend Barbara Mandrell, who stepped away from her singing career in 1997. The album will be titled She Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool, after one of Mandrell's best-known tracks.
Kenny Chesney and Reba McEntire will perform the number one country hit I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool, while Willie Nelson and Shelby Lynne will team up for This Time I Almost Made It.
The album will also feature Dierks Bentley on Fast Lanes And Country Roads, Sara Evans on Crackers, Brad Paisley on In Times Like These, Terri Clark on
Sleeping Single In A Double Bed and Lorrie Morgan on That's What Friends Are For.
Mandrell says of the project, "The loving kindness of these friends gave me such an emotional high, and I'm still there. I don't know if I'll ever come down."
The album will be released on October 10.
