The PromiseThe crew of Chinese blockbuster The Promise have been blasted for messing up their location at Shangri-La in the southwestern region of Yunnan. The technicians, under the jurisdiction of Oscar-nominated director Chen Kaige, angered the local press after reportedly leaving the idyllic beauty spot in chaos - with garbage, including abandoned concrete, lying by the Bigu Lake.

English-language newspaper the China Daily fumes, "There is no doubt that film crews are to blame for their irresponsible actions. The big names of film stars or directors should never be an excuse for showing no regard for relevant rules that protect the environment or for taking no responsibility for what they do."

Kaige's wife, Chen Hong, hit back at the allegations, insisting "enough money" had been left for the local government to deal with the mess.
