Grey's Anatomy beauty Katherine Heigl experienced her own real-life medical drama as a child when her older brother was left brain damaged in a traffic accident. Heigl was devastated when her 15-year-old brother Jason was thrown from the back of a truck in 1986. The Heigl family then made the difficult decision to donate his organs.

The actress, who plays stunning intern Izzie Stevens in the hit medical drama, tells health magazine Prevention, "Jason didn't need them any more, and it's what he would have wanted. (His death) changed my life."
