Country star Hank Williams Jr. will appear in court today on charges of assaulting a 19-year-old waitress in a hotel bar last month. Holly Hornbeak alleges the singer cursed her, tried to kiss her and lifted her in a chokehold, according to Shelby County Sheriff spokesman Steve Shular.

Williams Jr., who maintains he is innocent, originally checked into the Peabody Hotel in order to be close to his daughter Hilary, who was being treated in a nearby hospital after being involved in a car crash on March 15.

The singer, son of late country music legend Hank Williams, claims he has been set up, calling himself a "victim of greed." Williams Jr.'s publicist Kirt Webster says Hornbeak's attorney attempted to extract an "outlandish amount of money" in a letter dated March 21.
