Richard Gere Will Help Fix Road To Dalai Lama's Home
The Pretty Woman star has been a long-time activist in the cause of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader.
And now he wants to help rebuild the road, which is prone to avalanches and has been in a state of disrepair since last July, when storms destroyed parts of its surface, leaving huge craters behind.
Lawmaker Vijay Singh (no relation to the golfer) says, "Gere has promised funds to repair the road leading to the house of the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala provided the money is properly spent.
"It is true that this is causing hardship to pedestrians and others and so the state public works department has prepared a masterplan to improve, upgrade and maintain this as well as other roads in Dharamsala."
