Brokeback MountainGay cowboy movie Brokeback Mountain has been banned by authorities in the Bahamas, sparking outrage among gay rights groups. The Bahamian Plays And Films Control Board decided the Ang Lee directed film should not be shown because it contains "extreme homosexuality, nudity and profanity."

Gay organization The Rainbow Alliance branded the decision "a farce" and were appalled that a small minority should try to "provide the moral compass for the entire country".

The Bahamian film board said the film was of "no value for the Bahamian public."

Philip Burrows, a theatre director from the islands, responds, "You have a group of people who are telling grown men and women what they can and cannot watch. I cannot understand denying people the right to make their own choices."
