Natasha Richardson Feared Acting Alongside Her Famous Mother
March 23rd, 2006 1:57pm EST Post a comment Add to My NewsBritish actress Natasha Richardson was terrified of acting opposite her mother Vanessa Redgrave in her new movie - in case the veteran star didn't think she was good enough. The 42-year-old stars in The White Countess as Sofia, a Russian aristocrat who must turn to prostitution in Shanghai during the Bolshevik revolution, alongside Redgrave, cast as Sofia's aunt.
However, Richardson admits acting opposite her mother was easier than she thought because the pair share such a close bond.
She says, "I was initially nervous at the prospect. I thought I'd panic: 'On God, Mum's over there watching me. What if she doesn't think I'm very good?' In the event, I didn't have to worry about our emotional scenes. I only have to look at her face and she makes me want to cry. There's a purity about my mother that's heartbreaking. I felt she just wanted me to do the best job I possibly could."
