Jill Hennessey Recalls Filming Terrifying Coffin Scene for 'Crossing Jordan'
March 17th, 2006 9:19am EST Post a comment Add to My NewsClaustrophobic Crossing Jordan star Jill Hennessy was left terrified when she was briefly buried alive in a coffin during a night shoot for the show. The actress had nightmares about the scene, in which she lies in wait for a killer, before the coffin shots were filmed. The actor playing the killer accidentally slammed the lid to the coffin shut at the end of the scene, and the crew were so keen to move on to the next shot, they left the screaming Hennessy inside the box, contemplating a slow death.
She reveals, "We were shooting at Griffith Park in Los Angeles one night and it was a full night shoot and I had to get inside a coffin. It was a real coffin and it was supposed to be left open because I am extremely claustrophobic. We had a gentleman who played the killer and he was supposed to jump into the grave, and I was inside the coffin. They yelled 'Action,' and he jumped in and pushed the coffin lid shut. Somehow it locked and he jumped on top of the lid to get out of the grave and they kept rolling the camera and yelled 'Cut' and nobody knew that I was locked inside."
She added, "After a while I'm in there screaming and I'm thinking, 'OK this is the end of my life.' Eventually, they were like, 'Where's Jill? We need her for the next shot,' and then they realised the gentleman had shut the lid on me and they came and got me out. I was a little upset."
