Deborah Gibson Was on Killer's Hit List; Advocates Private Addresses for Celebrities
Eighties pop star Deborah Gibson has revealed she's lucky to be alive after being targeted by celebrity killer Robert John Bardo. The singer discovered she was on sick Bardo's hit list after he was jailed for killing actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989. She says, "I was that stalker's other target so it could have been me." And that realization has prompted Gibson to fight websites who print celebrity's addresses because that's how Bardo tracked down his victim and then shot her when she answered the door.
She adds, "I've come that close to that. It's really frightening. There really should be a law (against printing addresses). It's not a joke and it's not about, like, 'Oh, woe is me, I'm a celebrity and people are bothering me.' It's like leaving a birdseed trail of how people can find you."
