Television executives announced yesterday that four local versions of Desperate Housewives will be produced for Latin American TV. "Amas De Casas Desperadas" will air on Argentina's Artear, Colombia's RCN, and Ecuador's Teleamazonas, while a Portuguese-language version will be produced for Brazil's Rede TV as "Donas De Casa Desperadas."
Filming will begin in late April in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where a Latin-flavored interpretation of Wisteria Lane is being built. The Latin American version will follow the script and format of the U.S. original, but each series will have their own cast and will be tailored to include local cultural references.
Walt Disney Company Latin America President Diego Lerner says, "Desperate Housewives represents the beginning of a new project that will mark a before-and-after for the Latin American television industry."
