Kate BushKate Bush claims recording her new album almost killed her. The eccentric singer is releasing her long-awaited album 'Aerial' (click for review) - her first new LP in 12 years - next week but admits the recording process was so arduous and painstaking it almost drove her to her grave.

She said: "There were so many times I thought I wasn't going to have the energy to see it through. I knew I couldn't go on any longer or it would have killed me. I was so fed up making it".

Kate, 47, admits the recording of the album turned into a nightmare because she kept on scrapping hours of material because she wasn't happy with the results.

Several musicians who worked with the demanding star revealed that Bush insisted on endless retakes and reworking of tracks, with some songs rumoured to have taken up to four years to complete. The singer admitted to BBC's Radio Four: "I'm very opinionated. I'm horrible to work with; I'm so fussy and picky. What's good is that I know what I want. It's when you don't know what you want that you're in trouble."
