The huge success of Lost (an Emmy winner for outstanding drama) has led to the resurgence of science fiction on the small screen. In response to viewers' thirst for supernatural and fantastical storytelling, the major networks have created a fall schedule that is chock full of aliens, unexplained occurrences, and other out-of-this world adventures. Audiences can tune in Monday through Friday to catch shows that delve into the unknown.

Surface airs on NBC on Monday nights. The appearance of mysterious sea creatures in the deep ocean causes confusion around the world. The seemingly innocent creatures are beautiful, but are they more than they appear to be? Some of the people investigating the phenomena are oceanographer Laura Daughtery (Lake Bell), government scientist Dr. Aleksander Cirko (Rade Sherbedgia), and Richard Connelly (Jay Ferguson), a fisherman who lost his brother in a suspicious diving accident.

Following in the tradition of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, and Charmed, the WB just launched Supernatural. The Tuesday night series is about two brothers (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) who seek out paranormal and supernatural events while searching for their missing father. Traveling the country in their 1967 Chevy Impala, they encounter forces such as Bloody Mary, the Wendigo, and the dark Phantom.

As a follow up to Lost on Wednesday nights, ABC has launched Invasion. The series follows the aftermath of a hurricane in which a number of bizarre occurrences start taking place in the town of Homestead, Florida. Park ranger Russell Varon (Eddie Cibrian) begins investigating the strange events and unknowingly begins the fight for the survival of his family, his community, and ultimately the human race.

The ABC Thursday night series Night Stalker centers on Carl Kolchak (Stuart Townsend) and his partner Perri Reed (Gabrielle Union) who investigate his wife's mysterious murder and end up uncovering something much more disturbing, including crimes connected to the supernatural.

The CBS series Threshold is holding its own in its Friday night timeslot. The show is about a team of scientific specialists that are brought together after an extra terrestrial craft has landed in the mid-Atlantic ocean. A NASA microbiologist, a language and mathematics expert, a physicist, and others join forces to prepare for a crisis situation-an alien invasion.

Another Friday night CBS show with supernatural undertones is Ghost Whisperer. The program focuses on a young newlywed named Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) who has the ability to communicate with spirits. Although she wishes to lead an ordinary life and ignore her gift, what the ghosts say leads Melinda to some unusual investigations.
