SAG Awards

The 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards is set to get underway at 8pm tonight from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The award ceremony, which honors movie and television actors for the roles they played in 2013's biggest films and TV series, is a precursor for the Oscars, which almost always sees the winners culled from those of the SAG awards.

Awards are handed out in 13 categories, five for motion pictures and eight for television.

In addition to the stars, the SAG Awards also honors the stuntmen and women who make the films possible, with those awards revealed as the stars hit the red carpet before the show.

This year, Golden Globes Best Picture Drama winner 12 Years a Slave leads in the film category with four nominations, three of them for stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong'o and Michael Fassbender and the fourth for Best Cast.

Breaking Bad Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory are all up for three awards each in the TV categories.

This year's Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Rita Moreno. Morgan Freeman, who co-starred with the West Side Story star from 1971-76 on children's variety show "The Electric Company," will present her with the award.

The 2014 SAG Awards airs tonight on TBS and TNT at 8pm eastern. The nominees were announced by Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg and Rizzoli & Isles star Sasha Alexander, who serves as this year's Social Media Ambassador.
