Octavia Spencer has landed her first TV role. The Oscar-winning actress is set to star in a reboot of beloved 1980s murder mystery series Murder She Wrote.
Spencer will star as mystery author and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher, the role made famous by Angela Lansbury, earning her 12 Emmy nominations.
"I've always considered myself an armchair detective and in a recent meeting with Bob Greenblatt (NBC chairman), he asked me what type of character would be able to lure me to TV," Spencer says. "Naturally, I said J.B. Fletcher meets Colombo... And here we are. I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity..."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will be a "reimagining of the series with a light, contemporary take a la 'Bones' and 'Fargo'."
Last week, the actress released a children's book about a young crime-fighting ninja, titled Randi Rhodes: Ninja Detective.
