Last week, director James Cameron promised not one, not two, but three sequels to his hit film Avatar.

Hot off the success of the 2009 film, Cameron revealed that there were plenty more tales to tell about the planet Pandora and its race of blue beings - the Na'vi.

Cameron plans on shooting the three sequels simultaneously, and he's got four new screenwriters on board to help him pen the three stories.

"Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience," the director said in a statement. "In writing the new films, I've come to realize that Avatar's world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen."

Last Wednesday the sequel to 2011's The Smurfs was released, showcasing the tiny blue creatures created by Belgian comic artist Peyo for the second time on the big screen; and at last month's Comic Con in San Diego, fans of Spider-Man were given a glimpse of The Amazing Spider-Man 2's blue baddie, Electro.

Those aren't the only blue characters to hit the big screen... check out the others you may have forgotten about on the following pages...
