'Biutiful' written and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel) stars the wonderful Javier Bardem, as Uxbal a man living on the edge of society in modern Barcelona.  Uxbal is struggling to reconcile fatherhood, love, spirituality, crime, guilt and his own mortality.  He is a criminal....a criminal with a conscious...Uxbal is tormented by what he is doing...pimping out migrant workers to whoever will employ them. It's getting harder and harder for him to look the other way. When Uxbal finds out he is dying, he must reevaluate everything he has ever done in his life and more importantly, find a way to insure his children's future when he is gone.  'Biutiful' is a circular life itself.  It ends where it begins.  This is a film you will not forget. It's dirty, loud, violent, ugly, scary...but it's also beautiful.  Javier Bardem captured the Best Actor Award at Cannes where the film premiered.

He gives a brilliant, textured performance as this  very flawed character.  The film also stars newcomers Maricel Alvarez and Diaryatou Daff as Uxbal's two young chidren. Hanaa Bouchaib plays Marambra, Uxbal's passionate, bio polar ex wife.

'Biutiful' opens in theaters, Wednesday, December 29, 2010.  One of the 'Two Jews On Film' believes seeing this film, is a wonderful way to end the New Year.
