Tribeca Film Festival Picks: James Franco's 'Palo Alto' And 'Ele
Tonight at the Tribeca Film Festival sees the long-awaited premiere of James Franco's Palo Alto, as well as Electric Slide, an L.A. send up about a real life bank robber who did it with style. You can check out my Starpulse reviews below:

Palo Alto - 6pm, SVA Theatre

The answer to James Franco’s recent internet hoax that went viral is finally upon us, and that answer is tonight’s premiere of Palo Alto, a film based on a book by Franco of the same name. Suburban, middle-class California teenagers coming of age . . . you know what you’re getting: some pretty faces, a lot of drinking, ill-a...

Tribeca Notes: Best Quotes And Moments From Tyson & Holyfield 'Champs' Premiere

April 21st, 2014 10:50am EDT
Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield
Here are some of my quick-hit notes and thoughts on the Tribeca Film Festival’s first weekend:

• Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield were on hand for the premiere of Champs, a documentary their lives (and that of Bernard Hopkins) as heavyweight championship boxers. After the screening, Tyson and Holyfield were part of a panel discussing the film, and gave personal insight into their experiences. Here are some quotes:

Holyfield (on being swindled by money handlers): “I wouldn’t say that I was ever duped; you’re not being duped if people aren’t lying to you. … Growing up, I always trusted peop...

Tribeca Film Festival Weekend Picks
Looking for good movies this weekend in New York? Count on a few gems playing at the Tribeca Film Festival that play like big screeners:

SATURDAY

ART AND CRAFT - 7pm, Clearview Cinemas Chelsea

What happens when one of the world’s greatest art forgers gets caught donating masterpiece copies to the some of the world’s most prestigious museums? Well, as a former agent for the FBI puts it: Nothing. “He gave away all of these works away for free,” the former agent says with surrender, “so as long as he didn’t profit, he didn’t commit any crime. It’s not fraud.” So goes the paradox behind th...

Skylar Grey Performs At 'Don't Look Down' Album Release Party

July 10th, 2013 10:45am EDT
skylar grey
Skylar Grey performed at the release party for her new album Don't Look Down last night on New York's Lower East Side, presented by Steve Madden Music. Her hour-long set included songs she's co-written for Eminem, Rihanna and Dr. Dre.

Before the show I had a chance to sit down with her backstage and chat about the release and her upcoming tour. "The album will show a lot more of my personality," she said when asked about the difference between the album and the collaborative singles. "People aren't gonna know me from one song. The album is a journey--it's about where I grew up, who I am, h...

May 7th, 2013 10:31am EDT
justin timberlake at roseland ballroom, nyc
Justin Timberlake rocked the Roseland Ballroom last night in New York City to a sold out crowd. Sponsored by MasterCard Priceless Premieres, fans were treated to songs from all three of Timberlake's studio albums, as well as a sexified cover of "Need You Tonight" by INXS. Jay-Z wasn't in the house, but wife Jessica Biel and Lonely Island cohort Andy Samberg were, and towards the end of the set Timbaland made a surprise guest appearance.

Just recently, Timberlake tweeted out a photo from the studio announcing a September 30th date for the second part of his 20/20 Experience. He also announc...

Tribeca Film Festival: 'Mistaken For Strangers' - Review

April 27th, 2013 12:52pm EDT
Mistaken for Strangers
If you’re a fan indie rock or the live music scene at large, you will like this film. If you’re a fan of Radiohead’s Meeting People is Easy, you will like this film. If you are a fan of The National, you will really like this film. And if you find the Zach Galifianakis brand of humor funny, not only will you love this film, but you should mark it down as a must see.

Granted, Galifianakis is nowhere to be found in this 80 minute rockumentary, but his doppelganger is surely manifested in the form of one Tom Berninger, whose much-older brother Matt happens to be the lead singer of the band. T...
