"American Idol" Finalists Sing the Idols

American Idol” season 12 finals begin with the top 10 performing songs from past Idol winners.

Jimmy Iovine returns to mentor the Idol singers on their performances and song chices.

The night began one judge short, Nicki was reportedly stuck in traffic.

Curtis got things started off with a performance of “I Believe” from season three winner Fantasia Barino. The judges agreed that Curtis did a good job but Randy wanted to see something different – another side of Curtis.

Janelle sang “Gone” from season 10 winner Scotty McCreery. Nicki and Randy weren't wowed but Keith thought Janelle burned it up.

Devin sang “Temporary Home” by season four winner Carrie Underwood. Nicki called Devin a professional but Keith and Randy were not impressed with Randy calling the perfornace way too safe. Mariah noted that since he is so good, they expect more of Devin.

Singing without her piano this week, Angie sang “ Surrender” from season one winner Kelly Clarkson. Mariah summed up the judges feelings in just one word – stelllar!

Paul also chose a song from Scotty McCreery - “Amazed”. Noting that Paul had been listening to the judges, they praised Paul on his song choice.

Singing a song by season six winner Jording Sparks - “I Have Nothing” - Candice brought the house down and had the judges on their feet. Nicki said that it was in everybody's best interest to never performa that song again.

Lazaro also sang a Kelly Clarkson song - “Breakaway” - but failed to impress the judges saying that it wasn't in his wheelhouse and there were pitch issues throughout the song.

Kree took on the Carrie Underwood song “Crying” in a performance that had Keith saying he would buy Kree's album tomorrow if she had one out. Mariah complimented Kree on her vocal range; adding that she could sing any kind of song.

Burnell sang “Flying Without Wings” by season two winner Ruben Stoddard in a performance that had the judges remarking on how Burnell always put his own twist on his songs.

Amber closed out the night with a performance of the very first Idol single “A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson in a performance that again brought the judges to their feet and had the judges proclaiming it was magnificent and perfect.

On the first results show of the season, season eleven winner Phillip Phillips and Bon Jovi perform; and there will be a sing off for the final spot on the “American Idol” summer tour.
