This week on “The Voice” it is finally all up to the fans. All 12 singers performed hoping to not only impress the coaches – who are only allowed to make comments – but to impress fans enough to vote for them.
Host Carson Daly revealed that any singer whose song reaches the top 10 on the iTunes singles chart will have their votes multiplied by 10; something that could really boost a singer’s placing. Each week TWO singers will be eliminated – the two singers with the lowest votes no matter what team they are on. With the new format there is not guarantee that a coach will last the season with singers.
The night began with a performance from team Blake’s Michaela Paige. The coaches agreed that Michaela gave an effortless performance and her voice was bright and bold but not fluffy.
Team Christina’s Dez Duron went old school pop with his performance of “Can’t Take My Eyes off of You”. The coaches felt it was Dez’ best performance and thought that Dez had found his style.
Team Christina’s Adriana Louise rocked it out with the Carrie Underwood country hit “Good Girl”. The coaches agreed Adriana gave a playful performance and Blake was glad she performed a country song and made it her own.
Team Cee Lo’s Cody Belew took on the legendary Tina Turner with “The Best”. The coaches said Cody was a natural performer and owned the stage; Adam compared Cody to Prince on the stage.
Team Adam’s Amanda Brown gave a performance that while the coaches agreed she had talent, but felt she was a little constricted and were waiting to see who she really was.
Bryan Keith from team Adam took on British pop star Amy Winehouse with “Back to Black”. The coaches said Bryan gave an incredible performance and had a modern Sinatra raspy thing going on.
Team Blake’s rocker girl Cassadee Pop donned her guitar for a performance of “Behind These Hazel Eyes”. The coaches agreed that Cassadee made a perfect song choice and showed off her soulfulness.
Team Cee Lo’s Trevin Hunte performed “When a Man Loves a Woman” that brought the coaches to their feet. Saying he had never heard anything like it, Adam called the performance magical; and Cee Lo called Trevin a natural born champion.
Team Adam’s Melanie Martinez gave what the coaches called an emotional performance and agreed that she had a unique sound in the competition.
Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas David performed the Huey Lewis hit “Power of Love”. The coaches called the performance strong, beautiful, and came naturally from the heart.
Team Christina’s Egyptian born singer Sylvia Yacoub sang the Celine Dion hit “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie “Titanic”. The coaches agreed that it was an ambitious song choice but also showed off what Sylvia could do vocally.
The final performance of the night was from resident classic rocker Terry MacDermott who performed the Boston hit “More than a Feeling”. The coaches were impressed with Terry’s falsetto and performance; adding that he owned it.
Along with the Tuesday results, coach Christina Aguilera will perform.
