Kasey Kahne Loses His Appetite Over 'Nasty' Breastfeeding
NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne has apologized for tweeting disgust over witnessing a mother breastfeeding in the grocery store, but his words of contrition have done little to quiet down the debate!
Kasey Kahne and breastfeeding do not mix. The 31-year-old NASCAR driver has sparked a heated debate after tweeting his reaction to seeing a mother breastfeed her child in the grocery store.
Tuesday Kasey Kahne's Twitter feed read:
"Just walking through supermarket. See a mom breast feeding little kid. Took second look because I was obviously seeing things. I wasn't!"
"One boob put away one boon hanging!!! #nasty"
"I don't feel like shopping anymore or eating"
Though many tweets have since been deleted from the NASCAR driver's account, those quick to take a screenshot of a resulting conversation caught Kahne directly insulting a mother who objected to his statements. User @KnittingRad wrote Tuesday, "wow, you're kind of a douchebag, where would you propose that baby eat, the restroom? Would you eat in the restroom?"
Kasey Kahne then shot back, "and your a dumb b***h".
By Wednesday Kasey Kahne had changed his tune and issued the following statement on Facebook:
I understand that my comments regarding breastfeeding posted on Twitter were offensive to some people. For that, I apologize. It was in no way my intention to offend any mother who chooses to breastfeed her child, or, for that matter, anyone who supports breast feeding children. I want to make that clear.
In all honestly, I was surprised by what I saw in a grocery store. I shared that reaction with my fans on Twitter. It obviously wasn’t the correct approach, and, after reading your feedback, I now have a better understanding of why my posts upset some of you.
My comments were not directed at the mother’s right to breastfeed. They were just a reaction to the location of that choice, and the fashion in which it was executed on that occasion.
I respect the mother’s right to feed her child whenever and wherever she pleases.
Many have agreed with KnittingRad and posted messages supporting the right to breastfeed in public, yet a large number stand behind the racecar driver's opinions. One female, echoing the thoughts of many, wrote on Facebook, "You were well within your rights to feel shocked. The mother could have gone to her car. The grocery store is for shopping, NOT breastfeeding!"
