Anyone who grew up in the 80s remembers Gary Collins as an affable host with All-American looks. He died on Saturday at the age of 74, RumorFix is reporting.
“Gary Collins was a gentleman in the true old fashioned sense,” Joan Rivers tweeted, “I liked him tremendously. My thoughts go out to Mary Ann [Mobley] and the family.”
Gary was an actor on shows like The Wackiest Ship in the Army and Love Boat, but he is best remembered as a host of TV shows like Hour Magazine and later The Home Show.
Perhaps his most memorable gig was hosting the Miss America pageant from 1980-1992. He even married a former Miss America, Mary Ann Mobley — they separated last year.
Desperate Housewives star Vanessa Williams shared her memory on Saturday, tweeting, ” Sorry 2 hear of #garycollins passing away today. As host he sang “Miss America,You’re Beautiful” when I was crowned in ’83.”
