Pink Panther star Herbert Lom has passed away at the age of 95. The actor, who played Inspector Clouseau’s boss Charles Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, according to his family.

He racked up more than 100 movie credits in a career spanning six decades, starring in classics such as El Cid, The Ladykillers and Spartacus. Czech-born Lom moved to the U.K. in 1939 to escape the impending Nazi occupation during World War II, and was regularly cast as a villain in his early roles.

He also portrayed French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1942′s The Young Mr. Pitt, and again in the 1956 screen adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. But Lom will be best remembered as irritable Chief Inspector Dreyfus. He made his first appearance opposite Peter Sellers’ bumbling Clouseau in the 1964 movie A Shot In The Dark.
