Mariah Carey kicked off The World Music Awards on Tuesday night in Monaco, but she showed up late and delayed the start of the show by an hour.

The singer performed her new song "Meteorite" after forcing producers to push back the schedule due to her late arrival, according to Britain's The Sun.  The pop star recieved the Pop Icon Award at the event.

Ricky Martin was named Latin Legend, and Welsh star Shirley Bassey recieved a Lifetime Achievement Award.

At one point Miley Cyrus told the crowd: "Thank God! I thought this party was never going to get started." Cyrus  was named the World's Best Female Artist, and her music video "Wrecking Ball" was named World's Best Pop Video.

Cyrus attended the event, held at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, with her brother Braison. She closed the show with "Wrecking Ball."

Other performers included Jason DeRulo, Fall Out Boy, Flo Rida and British rapper Tinie Tempah.

Following the show, Carey tweeted a photo of her twin children Morrocan and Monroe with the caption: "The best awards I've ever received: Roc & Roe!! Thank you Melissa & all at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo."
