Disney's newest animated film, "Frozen" was unable to topple "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" at the Thanksgiving box office, which held on to the number-one spot for the second weekend in a row with $110.2 million over five days.

However, the winter-themed movie, featuring the voices of Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, debuted with a whopping $93 million to become Disney's biggest opening ever.  The film centers on a young girl named Anna who embarks on an epic journey to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

"Catching Fire," meanwhile, has made a total of $296.5 million since its release on November 22.

Rounding out the top five were "Thor: The Dark World" ($11.1 million), "The Best Man Holiday" ($8.4 million) and "Homefront" ($6.9 million).

It was the film industry's biggest overall Thanksgiving weekend on record, topping the $291 million earned in 2012 with films including "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2," "Skyfall" and Lincoln."
