Vixen guitarist and founder Jan Kuehnemund died from cancer on Thursday at age 51, according to reports.

The Minnesota native formed the girl group in high school, and the band relocated to Los Angeles in the mid-1980s. They eventually signed with EMI and released their self-titled debut album in 1988.

Their tops hits were "Cryin'" and "Edge of a Broken Heart." The band also appeared in Penelope Spheeris' film "The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years."

Regulars on MTV, the group followed up their debut album with 1990's "Rev It Up." Kuehnemund briefly got back together with the band for VH1's Bands Reunited in 2004.
