They may have been booed at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sunday, but One Direction was greeted by cheers during the premiere of their new film "One Direction: This Is Us" in Manhattan on Monday.
The group, consisting of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne, was mobbed by fans when they arrived at Times Square to promote their new documentary.
Styles told Digital Spy: "It is very exciting, I think it's crazy we have a premiere in the first place, let alone in America."
The film provides an intimate, all-access look at life on the road for the boy band and recalls their humble beginnings on the U.K. "X Factor" to their meteoric rise to fame. It hits theaters on Aug. 30.
The band was booed following their win for Best Song Of The Summer for their single "Best Song Ever" at the VMAs. Lady Gaga was irritated by the crowd's reaction, telling the boy band: "If I did hear what I heard out there, I just want to tell you that you deserve every bit of success that you have. And don't you dare let those people boo you..."
Taylor Swift made news following the VMAs after she was spotted mouthing "Shut the f--k up" on the audience cam while One Direction was on stage. She famously dated band member Harry Styles.
