During an auction at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday night, one bidder won an out-of-this world experience to join Leonardo DiCaprio on a flight into space - for a mere $1.5 million.

The lucky bidder will sit immediately next to the actor onboard Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic voyage into orbit. The identity of the wealthy "spaceman" has not been revealed.

Filmmaker Harvey Weinstein acutioned the once-in-a-lifetime trip during the the AmfAR Cinema Against AIDS charity dinner at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes.

The aircraft is still in the final stages of a safety test program, so a launch date has not been set yet.

DiCaprio is frequently attached to charity projects that raise a lot of money. Earlier this month, he took in $31.7 million by auctioning off an art collection - $14 million over the collection's estimate. The event was entitled the 11th Hour, and the proceeds will go to the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, a conservation charity.

The actor currently stars in "The Great Gatsby."
