It’s been a while. Sorry, it’s me, not you.
Let’s dive right in. Lots of little updates.
This is utter garbage. I’m not the worlds biggest Arcade Fire fan but I can appreciate what they do errr did, until “Reflektor.” It’s just them trying too hard to be relevant and hip by recycling Tears for Fears and Let’s Dance era Bowie? I think we’re all forgetting the magic of the Let’s Dance album is Stevie Ray Vaughan’s guitar playing. The worse thing about “Reflektor” it’s almost 8 minutes long. Why?! It’s repeated nonsense and people are claiming it to be genius? Come on. Yeezus might not be better lyrically but at least it’s interesting, it’s a screenshot into the mind of Kanye. This song is just an attempt to follow what everyone else is doing and escape the rest of the faux-folk crap that they virtually launched.
The Weeknd – Kiss Land
This is boring as heck. I’m two songs in and there’s nothing interesting here. It sounds like lame outtakes from his previous EP’s. I can’t even finish this.
I hate to admit it but Drake puts out at least one song per album that I actually really like. This is probably it for the most part. My friend Alex pointed this song out to me and it’s a very well done song. I wish that Drake would just do an entire album of him singing and not attempting to rap. I feel like rap is his weakest thing, though “Started From the Bottom” is fun, largely because it’s Mike Napoli’s walk up song (Red Sox 1B). If this is the direction that R&B is going on (with this song, Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake), I’m all for it. We’re missing a human element in R&B and while this might not use full “real” instruments, it’s still better than a lot of R&B out there right now.
What the hell? Em keeps trying, we keep buying hoping that he might churn out something good again but this isn’t good. The video is probably the best part of it and that’s largely because Rick Rubin is creepy as hell without his sunglasses, so I feel like I have to like it because he’s staring into my soul.
Miley released a new video but I’m gonna save that for a larger post.
One of my new favorite songs. It’s a bit old at this point but it’s really blowing up big over here. Hard to believe she’s only 16. Reminds me a bit of MIA.
Katy Perry released a song that sounds exactly like Sara Bareilles.
I think that wraps it up for now.
