All Hail Chris Pratt, Star-Lord of 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
You will now refer to Andy Dwyer of "Parks and Recreation" as "Lord."
"Star-Lord," to be exact, as Chris Pratt will be blasting off as the first official cast member of the strangest (so far) of the Marvel films, "Guardians of the Galaxy," according to Deadline.
Pratt has been cast in the role of Peter Quill, the offspring of an alien father and human mother whose career as a NASA astronaut takes a bizarre turn when he comes across a group of beings (one of which is a talking raccoon; another of which is a talking tree-thing) from another time and dimension. He reinvents himself as Star-Lord and leads the team in their quest to rid the universe of extraterrestrial menace.
Pratt has recently proven himself as more than just the dim-witted but big-hearted Andy on "Parks and Recreation" with his dramatic turns in "Moneyball," "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Movie 43" (hey, trying to poop on your real-life wife counts as "dramatic"). Now he's an official member of the Marvel Universe in his first superhero role ... if you don't count Andy's alter ego, Bert Macklin.
"Guardians" also reunites Pratt with his "Movie 43" director, James Gunn. Never let it be said that the already-infamous comedy anthology film hurt anyone's career.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" will be the last of the Marvel's Phase Two films before "The Avengers 2" opens in May 2015. It will hit theaters on Aug. 1, 2014.
