Alexander Skarsgard Prepares For Hearty Viking Adventure
A 'True Blood' star is headed for colder climes.
Atlas Entertainment sold the pitch to the studio, which currently has the working title of "The Vanguard." Chris Boal is set to write the script that follows the adventures of two Viking warrior brothers who embark on a journey to return to Sweden after being banished to North America.
We have a feeling a girl will be involved as well, one with whom the brothers may form a love triangle. Hey, do we know our Viking epics or what?
WB is hoping this will be a tentpole film along the lines of "Gladiator" and "Braveheart." Skarsgard is the perfect choice for this, if only for the fact that he pretty much looks like a Viking already.
The son of fellow thespian Stellan Skarsgard is poised for major stardom as he has several high-profile projects about to be unleashed with Viking-like fury. "Straw Dogs," in which he plays Kate Bosworth's psycho ex-sweetie, opens Sept. 16, with Lars Von Trier's "Melancholia" (in which he co-stars with his father, a Von Trier alum) close behind with a Nov. 4 release. He'll also be seen in "Battleship" (as in "You Sunk My"), opening May 18, 2012.
No word yet on a start date for the Viking flick -- it probably all depends on how quickly Chris Boal, the acclaimed playwright and brother of "Hurt Locker" screenwriter Mark Boal, can get crackin' on the script. Crack away, Viking scribe!
