Katie Cassidy is looking to blow things up.
The "Gossip Girl" beauty will be getting her freak on -- Elmore Leonard style -- as she joins the cast of "Freaky Deaky," according to Variety.
"Freaky" is one of Leonard's most underrated novels, following an LAPD bomb squad officer who stumbles upon a plot by two former hippie activists who plan to use their bomb-making skills to trick an alcoholic movie mogul into handing over millions of dollars.
Katie will be playing Robin Abbott, one of the ex-hippies in question who went to jail for blowing up a police car. She hooks up with her former lover, Skip (Brendan Fraser), to pull off what seems like a can't-miss Big Score.
Robin is in her 40s in the novel, though we doubt that will be the case in the film with the 24-year-old Cassidy playing her. Hey, you can be 24 and have been a hippie and done some hard time, ya know.
Sienna Miller had been rumored for the role, though it looks like that possibility has gone ka-boom. Matt Dillon will be playing Chris Mankowski, the bomb squad officer, and director Charles Matthau is looking to replace William H. Macy, who recently dropped out of the project.
Katie Cassidy was recently seen in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" remake as one of Freddy Kruger's many victims and in "Taken" as Maggie Grace's doomed travel mate. Her other credits include "Black Christmas" (she died in that one, too, come to think of it), "When a Stranger Calls" (ditto) and "Melrose Place" (okay, she didn't die on that show -- or did she?).
"Freaky Deaky" begins shooting in Michigan next week and will get freaky (and deaky) in theaters in 2012.
