Stephen Fry Middle-earth is getting crowded!

Production on "The Hobbit" is going full swing, though casting is still underway for the massive two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" prequel. The latest thespian to arrive in Middle-earth is Stephen Fry, according to director Peter Jackson's own Facebook page.

Stephen Fry will be playing the Master of Laketown in the film, but don't take our word for it -- let Jackson tell you about it himself:

"We are thrilled to confirm that Stephen Fry will be playing The Master of Laketown. I’ve known Stephen for several years, and we're developing a Dambusters movie together. In addition to his writing skills, he's a terrific actor and will create a very memorable 'Master' for us."

Stephen Fry was part of the old "Black Adder" television series and played Dietrich in "V For Vendetta." He recently voiced the Cheshire Cat in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" and will appear later this year as Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock's older brother, in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows."

Every bit of casting news for "The Hobbit" makes us realize all over again that "The Hobbit" is actually happening. And Peter Jackson is directing it. Yowza!

Check out Jackson's Facebook page for even more "Hobbit" casting. Part 1 of the epic journey opens Dec. 19, 2012.
