Isla Fisher Hits The Road In The Female 'Hangover' Movie 'Desperados'
"The Hangover" was a surprise hit in 2009 and, since then, every studio has pushed their own raunchy, R-rated comedies into production in hopes of replicating the film's success.
According to the L.A. Times, Isla Fisher ("Wedding Crashers," "Confessions of a Shopaholic") is set to star in "Desperados," described as a female "Hangover" set during a road trip. Since "The Hangover" was essentially a self-contained road movie around the seedier parts of Vegas, the movie should follow the formula quite closely.
The script was written by Ellen Rapoport and previously held a spot on the coveted Black List, a compilation of the best, unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood. Not much is known about the antics Fisher and her yet-to-be-cast cohorts will get into, but the film concerns three women who head to Mexico after one of them leaves a caustic message for a man she likes.
"Desperados" is honing in on director Betty Thomas, who previously directed "Private Parts" and the underappreciated "The Brady Bunch Movie." The film will follow in the wake of the upcoming "Bridesmaids," which also adpots the "Hangover" style for a wedding setting.
Fisher could use a breakout hit and the idea of a comedy that will let her flex her muscles and not cater to the pre-determined (and way off-base) "female audience" should only help her in the long run. "Desperados" has the opportunity to be very, very funny, and the team they've assembled thus far is sound proof that their on the right path.
