Ice Cube Heading To '21 Jump Street'
Ice Cube is preparing to send some of his boys to school.
The “Friday” star might be looking to take a bite out of crime as he’s in negotiations to join the cast of “21 Jump Street.” According to Deadline, Ice Cube would be playing the police captain, the role originated by Steven Williams on the FOX television series that ran from 1987-1991.
Ice Cube would be joining both Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the story of youthful-looking police officers who work undercover in high schools, colleges and other places where kids hang out… and commit crimes!
Ice Cube would also possibly be joining none other than Johnny Depp, the (somewhat reluctant) star of the original TV series. According to Tatum, the “21 Jump Street” gang has been “beating on his door.” Depp apparently wants to do it, but he’s of course something of a rather busy fellow.
Meanwhile, Ice Cube has been keeping busy himself, shopping around a script he wrote as a directing and starring vehicle for himself called “Chrome and Paint,” a gritty crime drama that focuses on the custom car culture of South Central Los Angeles.
Production begins on “21 Jump Street” in late April, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing the undercover coolness.
