They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but we’re pretty sure that estimate is a little bit low, because we’ve got a brand new picture that has to be worth at least 95,000.
Yes, it’s time to get stoked, people, because Film Shaft has just revealed the first official image from the upcoming Peter Jackson adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein’s classic fantasy novel “The Hobbit.” The big surprise? There aren’t nearly as many giant, hairy bare feet as we were expecting.
Of course, that’s because the photo shows all the actors in their regular clothes just milling around on a lawn, but honestly? After all these long years of waiting for this film to get made, at this point we’ll take whatever we can get.
“The Hobbit,” of course, has had a long a torturous journey to the big screen, which is sort of fitting considering the movie itself is about a long and torturous journey. Or it would be fitting if it wasn’t so damn annoying and inexplicable considering the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy made eleventy billion dollars at the box office and everyone involved has been desperately trying to get “The Hobbit” made ever since with no luck.
Now, though, we finally have concrete proof that actual, honest-to-god actors are getting ready to shoot the film, even if Bag End looks suspiciously like a motel courtyard in this photo. And without the special effects, it’s a little hard to envision this line-up as the CGI-shortened company of dwarves it’s going to eventually become. We will say one thing, though: Martin Freeman (foreground in the strobing sport jacket) looks like he’s going to be pretty spot on as the titular hobbit hero Bilbo Baggins.
Check it out and while you’re at it, let out that breath you’ve been holding for the past seven years, because “The Hobbit” is finally becoming a reality:
